Error loading operating system

Asked by raytan21

Hi all,
I have installed the Ubuntu server 7.1 solely on a SATA 160gb harddisk but when the
system is rebooted from the Ubuntu OS, a error message " Error Loading operating system".

Below is the screen output mesage:

CLIENT MAC ADDR: 00 16 17 07 CD 91
GUID: 0002003-0004-0005-0006-000700080009
DHCP ..........

( i try hitting ESC key after few minutes )

PXE:EA0: Network host cancelled by keystroke
PXE:M0F: Exiting Nvidia Boot Agent

Error in Loading operating system

I believe this is not a LINUX problem but unsure how to solve it.
Do i need to alter the Boot Agent setup? and how to go about fixing it ?
Thanks for reading

seems your computer tries to boot from the network. the may either be a result of the boot order which might be changed in bios setup (read the manual about changing to boot order) or your computer can't find a bootable installation on your hard disc and tries booting from the network afterwards. to figure that out try booting from the install cd again and there should be an option to boot from the first hard disc.

You may want to try also:

Some BIOSes allow changing boot order while booting, i. e. pressing the F11 key(or similar).
Please check your BIOS setup. There you should find a menu for permanently
changing boot order(Press DEL or F1 key while booting).

Hope this helps,

Hi Thomas and exactl,
thanks for your advise... I have swapped the bootlist in the BIOS to keep the
1)CDROM
2) BootAgent
3) Harddrive

it will end up in the GRUB table then i will choose the appropriate one....
therefore i guess i need to alert the GRUB list in the Linux to cater other OS as well...

thanks!
