The output does not show that the Epson-provided printer drivers is installed,
now what is the output of

dpkg -l | grep -i escpr

When the printer quit working I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it and then instead of asking the printer model it was asking for the printer URI and I do not have a clue what that is.

I installed a driver and it still doesn't work So I am going to remove that driver and try another one.

I am beginning to think the best option might be to wipe the drive and re-install ubuntu from a disk. Maybe one or more of the software upgrades or something I did made the printer driver incompatible with the O/S

Manfred Hampl (m-hampl) said :

There is a know problem with some software (including the Epson printer drivers) and Ubuntu 16.04 related to the lsb packages.

I recommend that you try the Ubuntu-provided package printer-driver-escpr

How do I get that driver?

Revision history for this message
Jerry Wheeler (jdinbellevue) said :

Well I tried that and it didn't work so I will try a O/S re-install or go back to 15.04

15.04 is EOL and no longer supported in any way.

Were you able to install the printer-driver-escpr package?
What does the configuration page on http://localhost:631/ tell about the printer?
What happens if you try printing?

Tried that nothing worked so I wiped the drive and re-installed 16.04 from a disk not sure if I will try using epson printer with it. The printer I had before was a Hewlett Packard and ubuntu had generic drivers for them wonder why there is not a generic driver for epson in 16.02

Jerry Wheeler (jdinbellevue) said :

The ubuntu 16.04 from the disk has dozens of drivers for Epson printers just none for the XP-430 small in ones.

Manfred Hampl (m-hampl) said :

There is a generic 'EscPr' driver that should work with (almost) all Epson printers, including the XP-430 series.
