Do you have the correct drivers installed?

What is the output of the command

dpkg -l | grep -i epson
sudo dpkg --audit

Manfred Hampl (m-hampl) said : #11

The output does not show that the Epson-provided printer drivers is installed,
now what is the output of

dpkg -l | grep -i escpr

Jerry Wheeler (jdinbellevue) said : #12

jerry@jerry-Z97X-UD3H:~$ dpkg -l | grep -i escpr
rc epson-inkjet-printer-escpr:i386 1.6.5-1lsb3.2 i386 Epson Inkjet Printer Driver (ESC/P-R) for Linux
jerry@jerry-Z97X-UD3H:~$

When the printer quit working I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it and then instead of asking the printer model it was asking for the printer URI and I do not have a clue what that is.

Jerry Wheeler (jdinbellevue) said : #13

erry@jerry-Z97X-UD3H:~$ dpkg -l | grep -i escpr
ii epson-inkjet-printer-escpr 1.6.5-1lsb3.2 amd64 Epson Inkjet Printer Driver (ESC/P-R) for Linux
I installed a driver and it still doesn't work So I am going to remove that driver and try another one.

Jerry Wheeler (jdinbellevue) said : #14

I am beginning to think the best option might be to wipe the drive and re-install ubuntu from a disk. Maybe one or more of the software upgrades or something I did made the printer driver incompatible with the O/S

Manfred Hampl (m-hampl) said : #15

There is a know problem with some software (including the Epson printer drivers) and Ubuntu 16.04 related to the lsb packages.

I recommend that you try the Ubuntu-provided package printer-driver-escpr

Jerry Wheeler (jdinbellevue) said : #16

How do I get that driver?

Jerry Wheeler (jdinbellevue) said : #17

Well I tried that and it didn't work so I will try a O/S re-install or go back to 15.04

15.04 is EOL and no longer supported in any way.

Manfred Hampl (m-hampl) said : #19

Were you able to install the printer-driver-escpr package?
What does the configuration page on http://localhost:631/ tell about the printer?
What happens if you try printing?

Jerry Wheeler (jdinbellevue) said : #20

Tried that nothing worked so I wiped the drive and re-installed 16.04 from a disk not sure if I will try using epson printer with it. The printer I had before was a Hewlett Packard and ubuntu had generic drivers for them wonder why there is not a generic driver for epson in 16.02

Jerry Wheeler (jdinbellevue) said : #21

The ubuntu 16.04 from the disk has dozens of drivers for Epson printers just none for the XP-430 small in ones.

Manfred Hampl (m-hampl) said : #22

There is a generic 'EscPr' driver that should work with (almost) all Epson printers, including the XP-430 series.

Jerry Wheeler (jdinbellevue) said : #23

Where do I get it?

Jerry Wheeler (jdinbellevue) said : #24

Downloaded espr driver installed it tried to set up printer there are no XP printers on the list of drivers.

Manfred Hampl (m-hampl) said : #25

It is the printer-driver-escpr package.

Jerry Wheeler (jdinbellevue) said : #26

Problem solved posted the question on linux question website first reply solved it. sudo apt-get install printer-driver-escpr.
That may be what Manfred was trying to tell me but I didn't know how to get it. I am not very computer savy I am aretired construction worker and trying to learn something new. Thanks for taking the time to help me.
