MP3 Player

Asked by Chewmanfoo

Hello,

I've connected my wife's Sandisk Sansa MP3 player to my computer, but nothing happens. I can connect a USB flash drive and access it without issue, so the USB port works. Does Ubuntu not recognize the Sansa as a removable storage device for some reason, or am I missing a step somewhere?

Hello,

What version of the Sansa MP3 player are you using, and what version of Ubuntu are you using?

Hello williamts99,

Thanks for responding, but I solved the problem on my own. Under the MP3 player's Settings menu, I had to change the USB mode from Auto to MSC. When I reconnected the MP3 player, Ubuntu detected it and opened it up successfully.

Hello willitamts99,

Correction - my response was premature. I can access the music folder on the MP3 player, but it's empty. When I copy a couple of songs into the music folder, they appear to copy successfully, but don't show up on the MP3 player. When I connect the MP3 player again, the songs aren't in the music folder anymore. Any ideas?

It's a Sandisk Sansa C240 and I'm using Ubuntu 6.06, to answer your previous question.

Are they MP3 files or some other format like OGG? Is the format supported by the MP3 player in question?

Make sure to right-click and hit 'Eject' so the changes are written to the Sansa.

Hello Adam,

Thanks! That worked, as weird as it is. You'd think it would write the data immediately upon copying it over?!
