Ubuntu 14.04.1 Intermittent Network Issues on Hyper-V

Asked by Jason Bristow

We are running Ubuntu 14.04.1 on Hyper-V. The host is Windows Sever 2012 R2 in a cluster. The Ubuntu VM runs Plesk and hosts multiple websites. We keep having an issue where at least once a day the websites go offline and we cannot access the network from the Ubuntu VM. You can login to the Ubuntu Consolve via Hyper-V but you cannot ping outbound to the internet or gateway. The only way to solve the issue is to reboot the VM by issuing the command
"sudo reboot".

I tried to restart the networking by doing sudo ifdown eth0 but that didn't work either. It just gave the following:

hv_netvsc_12 eth0: timeout before we got a set response...
hv_netvsc_12 eth0: timeout before we got a set response...
hv_netvsc_12 eth0: unable to close device (ret -110)

This issue has been ongoing for a few days and right now we're just rebooting the server the second we see it go down. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Jason

Is there a setting for a legacy network adapter in the settings of the VM? I've read online that this helps.

Can you help with this problem?
