Files were owned by root, so running the empty command using sudo gave you the right level of access to destroy the data.

If you keep decent backups then you don't need to mess around with recovery applications and you will definitely be able to get the data back. A 1Tb USB drive costs peanuts.

Thank you.
Backing up has been an issue for me
please suggest a simple way to backup. Am in a remote area where steady electricity is an issue. while backing up with Deja dup the light suddenly went off. when i connect my external back, the system would not see the external again i have to start all over again again, so am looking for software that i can use to compress spend little time in Backing up

Buy a USB drive of a decent size and copy data to it. This is a backup. You can make more backups again and again. I use a scheduled rsync command but there are backup applications if you would rather use those.

Can you help with this problem?
