brother hl2140 spews blank pages

Running 14.04. HL-2140 used to work for several years, but suddenly only prints blank pages until the tray empties. Have tried reinstalling drivers but no success. Unable to get a good test page.

Have you tried removing the printer in Ubuntu and powering off the printer. Reboot the PC then login and then power on the printer. Let the automatic install take place (I assume you are using it over USB).

Sorry for the delay -- medical problems with a hospital stay.

I probably had already tried actionparsnip's suggestion early on, maybe several times. However, I just now followed the suggestion as stated. Unfortunately, the HL-2140 still spews blanks on turn-on after the restart. (It had been powered off for at least eight days before this last attempt.)

Will next go to Mark's #7. I think I had already looked at this thread and tried things from there without success. But, off to another hospital for a new PICC line, so will do this after we get home this afternoon.
