USB 3.0 port compatibility/driver issues

Asked by ViBE

First of all I came here, cause askubuntu is really dead. I have a tons of little issues with Ubuntu many years ago and now I had enough of these. I want back my fully working system. So may I need to report these. If I'm at the wrong place please tell me where and how can I report bugs/ask questions.

Since I have my laptop the USB 3.0 port always cause some trouble on Ubuntu. No matter which Ubuntu distribution I use/used. Most of the connected devices usually works. For example external USB HDDs, pendrives, webcamera. But sometimes HDDs fails too if I connect to the port a simple USB mouse or a USB hub. And then looks like Ubuntu just loads out the driver or something like that and I can't use this port till I restart the system. Recognising my controllers, phones, mobile devices also very poor. My controller is totally dead with USB 3.0. On Windows this port works well. So it's definitely a bug but can I fix it or report it?

All the Ubuntu distributions are 100% the same under the hood. It's like changing your wallpaper and expecting the USB to suddenly work.

What is the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; lsusb

Thanks

Also, please check the USB ports are enabled and configured correctly in the BIOS.

Well both USB 2 and USB 3 are detected. Have you tried updating your BIOS?

The last BIOS update for my laptop released in 2012. And the settings are fine. The BIOS is really straight forward.

So it's the latest. By the way somehow now the system detected my controller somehow but that's not usual.
