Ubuntu 15 launch

Asked by Sandi Ball

I am having big problems since I tried to update Ubuntu 14.04 on my Acer ES1 111.
I bought the computer in Montevideo Uruguay in April 2016
The computer came loaded with a simple version of Linux which I didn't open only booting with a previously made usb containing Ubuntu 14.04 & then installing.
It worked Ok. I then tried to update to Ubuntu 15.10 but ended up with a black screen. So I tried reinstalling 14.04 with same old usb.
When doing so it said 15.1 was already installed. So I installed 14.04 alongside 15.1 creating a partition.
Now on start up I have the option of the two but cannot get past command screen to open 15.1 which I believe must hold all my previous documents etc? I have tried several commands had start help info offered but still cannot launch.

Also very big problems with the touchpad. I did change it to basic in the bios when first installing 14.04 the pointer has big runaway sessions where I cannot control it at all. Right & left click do not seem to work properly either.

As before the computer will not shut down or hibernate, I have to do this manually.

Please let me know if I can give anymore information,

thanks Sandi
