Ubuntu 16.04 LTS can't update

Asked by Pierre-Luc Morneau-Lépine

Hi,

I bought a fresh laptop (lenovo), and installed Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on it. Sadly, I can't install updates (I chose to not install them at the installation, else it would never install).
In ubuntu software manager, I try to install the OS update and it just hangs. The software manager is even worse : It hangs at checking updates, stops saying "Downloading from ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu".

Sudo apt-get update does 3-5 lines, then stop, pretty much around the samething, while getting the archive.ubuntu.

Any information is useful, I am a bit lost, and considering changing distribution :(

sudo apt-get update
[sudo] Mot de passe de ariane :
Réception de:1 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-security InRelease
[94,5 kB]
Atteint:2 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial InRelease
Atteint:3 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-updates
InRelease
Atteint:4 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-backports
InRelease

It then stops there and never does anything more..

Looks like you only have a few repositories enabled. If you use software centre, you can turn more on and get more software available to the system.

This is not it. The apt-get never ENDS. Same for the GUI repository update, never ENDS, just keep looking in a loop. Even the OS update are not working.

I am able to reproduce in a VM running under windows.

Stuck here.

It won't install, because it can't pass through updates. On my laptop, I Forced the install by not installing updates at installation. But it ends the same : No updates are going through.
