USB Keyboard and Mouse not recognized by Xorg

Asked by tomdean

I had an earlier problem with installing/removing flgrx. I have made some progress.

The keyboard and mouse work find in the console.
I can startx. However, the keyboard and mouse are not recognized by X.

I found a solution.

This machine started before Ubuntu 12.04 and has been upgraded to now.

In this process, lots of X related packages were installed. 73 packages
vs 37 for a clean install of 16.04.

I removed all the packages found by

#!/bin/sh
fname="xx.`/usr/bin/lsb_release -rs`.x.pkgs"
echo "Output is in $fname"
dpkg -l | awk '{print $2}' | grep -i "^x11" > $fname
dpkg -l | awk '{print $2}' | grep -i "^xorg" >> $fname
dpkg -l | awk '{print $2}' | grep -i "^xserver" >> $fname

and installed only xorg.

All this because of a messy installation with install/remove flgrx on top!
