you need to recover the whole partition? or specific files?

do you have additional hard drive?

I can't help but do have a similar problem. I installed Ubuntu on my second drive on the assuption it would leave the dos (Windows) files intact. However, it appears they are gone or, is it just that I can't view the folders and files. I need to get them all back before my dear bride finds out I've dumped all her pictures :-(

so you'll have a problem, because when you'll be retrieving data, and saving it to the same hard drive - so you can eventually lose a lot of data, so i'd suggest you to use
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

and in settings remember to check desired extensions

but it is also a good idea, to plug USB pendrive and save recovered data onto it

good luck

Can you help with this problem?
