Live DVD Kubuntu 7.10dvd-i386 gives I/O error "Error reading Boot CD"

Asked by Doepie

Hi

When trying to boot up with Live DVD I get an I/O error stating the boot CD cannot be read. The only further option in the error window is to re-boot.

I also cannot run the installation once I have booted into Windows. I get a pop-up that says launching browser, please wait which subsequently disappears. No error or anything.

I used the following URL to download: http://ubuntu.mirror.ac.za/ubuntu-cdimage/kubuntu/releases/7.10/release/kubuntu-7.10-dvd-i386.iso and then burned the ISO file to disk using CDBurnerXP.

Any help will be appreciated.

From what I gathered I should be able to load the OS onto a 1GIG memory stick when installing? I could only find instructions for Ubuntu, and not Kubuntu on how to do this. I assume it will be the same?

Machine Specs:

HP Compaq nx7400
Intel CPU T2300 @ 1.66Ghz
1.49 GB of RAM

Thanks

More observations"

The ISO Image size is 286 MB (300,836,864 bytes)

However, when browsing the mirror at ftp://ubuntu.mirror.ac.za/ubuntu-release/7.10/ I noticed that the ubuntu-7.10-desktop-i386.iso is a much larger file. (695.81 MB)

Should I rather try the desktop ISO?

Thanks

If course Kubuntu's ISOs are bigger than 286 Mbytes (expecially the liveDVD ones), you should re-download it and check it's md5sum before burning it on a CD.

As of putting Ubuntu/Kubuntu on an USB stick I can confirm you that the procedure is the same (for all the other Ubuntu and Debian derivatives too).

Thanks Frederico

I decided earlier on to download again. Busy burning Kubunto 7.10-desktop-i386.iso to disk...

Fingers crossed. Hopefully this works. ;-)

Tested and it's working thanks...

I can boot up with the CD.

Tried installing onto flash disk but there seems to be some problems. After reaching 47% in the installation the installation window closes without error. I can't read the flashdisk in windows now either.

Will have to go read up on the proper installation steps to flashdisk I remember something about formatting in a specific format or something.

Thanks for the help.
