Where is xorg.conf in V16.04?

Asked by bellvkg

Installed v16.04 on Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 / AMD FX 6300 CPU with ASUS HD 6450 SILENT video card ( DETAILS identifies Gallium 0.4 on AMD CAICOS (DRM 2.43.0, LLVM 3.8.0)).

"Additional Drivers" does not identify fglrx driver?

Binary Drive Howto identifies /etc/X11/xorg.conf should be copied, but I can't find it.

What am I doing wrong? Where do I go from here?

xorg.conf is in the same place as always. It's not present but if you make one it will be obeyed. The proprietary video drivers for AMD GPUs don't work in Xenial. If you have one I and want to use the proprietary drivers then I suggest you reinstall with Trusty. Trusty is also LTS and supported til April 2019.

Thanks, this answered my question. I thought if X-Windows was present, an xorg.conf was always present (and I searched everywhere). I stand corrected. I will decide whether to wait or fall back.
Issue: Multimedia application connected to older Toshiba 40" LCD TV that registers to video card as Toshiba 47".
AMD/ATI drivers allow for adjustment for good fit. NVidia does not provide that kind of flexibility (that I am aware of).

Anyway, thanks again.
