When will Ubuntu support 32 bit UEFI?

Asked by Hyunsu Ko

I've been waiting quite sometimes to get support for my Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet with Intel's Atom Baytrail SoC.

This tablet has 32 bit UEFI BIOS which can't boot 64 bit efi file. Current Ubuntu 16.04 ISO image does not support 32 bit UEFI BIOS firmware.

I want to use Ubuntu on my tablet because Linux kernel 4.4 is now supporting Baytrail devices.

Is Ubuntu planning to support 32 bit UEFI?

Hi Hyunsu. Yes, it's a problem because Ubuntu and other distributions do not support the use of a 32-bit EFI bootloader on UEFI machines. So, firstly please check this Bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1341944

Especially, a few last posts are very interesting. I mean e.g. post # 48 and so on. There is one more link worth reading etc.: http://askubuntu.com/questions/392719/32-bit-uefi-boot-support

Best regards.
