curl conflict with libmms0 in Linux Mint 17.3

Asked by suffolkpunch

I've got curl version 7.35.0-1ubuntu2.6 running in Linux Mint 17.3 (64-bit), which is based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty, I believe.

For months the following curl usage worked fine to get my external IP address:

     curl -k https://secure.informaction.com/ipecho/

Now, after Update Manager updated package libmms0 from version 0.6.2-3ubuntu2 to version 0.6.2-3ubuntu2.1, curl responds with 'Illegal instruction' when I call it from a terminal.

I reverted libmms0 to the version where it worked with curl by downloading and installing the following package:

   http://ftp.ticklers.org/archive.ubuntu.org/ubuntu/pool/universe/libm/libmms/libmms0_0.6.2-3ubuntu2_amd64.deb

So, to summarise: curl version 7.35.0-1ubuntu2.6 works with libmms0 version 0.6.2-3ubuntu2 but not with libmms0 version 0.6.2-3ubuntu2.1.

Is this a known bug? Is there a fix other than reverting the libmms0 upgrade?

Mint is not supported by the Ubuntu community in any way. It's support community is entirely separate from Ubuntu's. I suggest you post on the Mint forum here:
https://forums.linuxmint.com/

Thanks

To actionparsnip: Sorry for mis-posting this. I originally raised it on the linux mint forums (as you suggested), and was advised by a moderator to flag the issue at Ubuntu Launchpad. Have now posted it at Linux Mint Launchpad.

What Mint does or doesn't do is largely moot to Ubuntu. There is a shared package base and that's it.

Can you help with this problem?
