Into which directory do you try saving the file?
If you try saving a text file out of gedit in the same location, does this work?

Hi Manfred,
it is me again, updated and using Ubuntu Mate 16..I was having trouble
with it using Mate 15...so I am using the latest..anyway same problem when
trying to make a Power Point Presentation using Impress..PP using the
Windows for 97-2010..version, anyway I installed Libre Office Base from
Ubuntu Software Center, and I ran it once, then went back to Impress and I
was Able to do the Power Point, as I was sending it to some one who is
currently using Windows 10
Thanks once again
