You could try this workaround procedure, but using your Acer BIOS file, not the Dell file (of course... :-)

http://note.yuhc.me/2015/09/update-bios-under-linux-on-dell-xps-13/

This means copying the .exe file to the /boot/efi/ partition.

Maybe it works on your PC as well....

Please let us know if it works or not.

@ Mark Rijckenberg: This is a really interessting blog post! ... But I'm a litte worried, because I couldnt find anyone else who might share his experience with this simplistic flashing method. So, I'm a little too scared that something would go wrong and I decided not to try it out.

Altough I have an idea: Would it be possible to use one of Microsoft's official free downloadable ISO images for trail-version Windows 10 Home 64bit to install all the BIOS / Firmware exe files from Acer and then install Ubuntu 16.10 again?

Would the following updates be persistant, even after complete HDD wipe (Ubuntu 16.10 / Windows 10 / Ubuntu 16.10)?

[*] BIOS Acer Updates CPU microcode and TXE version.
[*] BIOS Acer Updated CPU uCode.
[*] BIOS Acer Update BIOS code.
[*] BIOS Acer Update Intel TXE (Trusted Execution Engine) Firmware

We only support Ubuntu here, not Windows. I suggest posting your question on a Windows forum or Acer community discussion forum.....

Installing a new BIOS version is not an Ubuntu question anyway.....
