Windows 10 won't allow Linux to install.

Asked by Earl Moreo

Not really a problem, merely a report.

On advice of my son, baught an Asus laptop, tried to install Linux 15.10 (Had the disk close at hand). Windows interfered with it loading and installing.

called ASsus. Over two hours everything the tech suggested failed.

Tech said that it wasn't even p[ossible yo reformat the hard drive and do a cold install.

As best I can determine, that is actually true.

15.10 is not LTS and will soon die. 16.04 is LTS and supported til April 2021. I suggest you try that.

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
Did you burn the CD as slowly as possible if you used an optical media? If you used a USB stick, how did you put the data on the drive?

Thanks

I burned the CD, installed both 15.10 (to avoid problems warned about in 14.10) and installed 16.04.

Windows 10 won't permit loading the program, won't permit running from the cd rom, and cannot even be removed by formatting the disk.

This is the reluctant admission of the Asus tech I spent 2.5 hours on the phone with last night.

The Asus machine goes back, and I buy a computer that will accept a Linux install, if I have to buy a computer with no hard drive and install a blank hard drive.
