I need a list of installed GRAPHICAL programs, where?

Asked by Eli

I am a developer working on a project to that deals with ChromeOS and Ubuntu, I need a way to get a list of the programs that are installed that have a GRAPHICAL side to them, that is programs like Ubuntu software center and GIMP, not programs like nano or gcc. I know there is a way to do this, as the Ubuntu dash does this very effectively(The Ubuntu logo in the top left of Ubuntu Desktop) that on click it shows only the graphical programs that you can then click to run. How could I get that same list of names?
P.S. -- I know about /usr/share/applications, this folder seems to show every application, even terminal ones, not just the launch-able graphical ones.
