Cacti under Ubuntu 16.04 casues high CPU load

Asked by Hans Rönnbäck

I've noticed that after upgrading to Ubuntu 16.04 that MySQL is consuming about 35% CPU time. The root cause seem to be Cacti, which is incompatible with MySQL 5.7 new DATETIME reqstrictions (does not allow "0000-00-00 00:00:00"). Cacti uses this value in a number of places as a "invalid/unknown" timestamp. One of the places is the poller. Seems like this issue causes the poller to hammer MySQL with a number of statements.

Is this a known issue that will be resolved? Or can I apply any "simple" workaround other than editing alot of .php files that belong to the Cacti package.

I've reported a bug (linked). Still wondering if anyone has a simple fix until the main problem is addressed.

Can you help with this problem?
