Ubuntu 7.1 fails to boot and displays some Microcode Fx or something error

Asked by Capslockmat1

Installed Ubuntu 7.1 on Compaq Presario...It worked well for 2 days...and all of a sudden it started failing to boot....

It shows some Microcode Fx error. When i tried to boot in recovery mode, same error was observed...but after some time terminal started. When i typed any command it again gave me same error...This is really nagging...I did not find any repair option when i inserted Ubuntu CD.

I am a fan of ubuntu and did not expect such things...Thats why probably people prefer Windows....

More description:

1. While booting it goes to check the file system

2. It displays "There are differences between boot sector and its backups"
  Differences:
Some data like ... 498:00/0d....499:00/0a.....etc etc

3. It then resumes booting with
    Checking minimum space in /tmp
    ...........
    ..........
    ..........
Starting Common Unix Printing System : cupsd

4. At this point it hangs for 10 mins....
5. Then it shows following error 5 times

[97:540000] bcm43xx: Error: Microcode "bcm43xx_microcodes.fw" not available or failed.

6. Then again it resumes and ubuntu login screen loads.

7. After adding username and password it again takes almost 10 mins to show the desktop.

8. For running any application it takes 1-2 mins...

Please help me out of this problem....

Hello:

you need to install and run bcm43xx-fwcutter in order to retrieve and load the correct microcode to your wifi...

Refer the below link for the same:

Hope it helps
