Ubuntu Installation Overwrite Disk

Asked by Scot

Attempting to install Ubuntu 14 from a 2.0 GB USB Flash Drive (downloaded from this site). I select "Erase Disk and Install Ubuntu"

I get this error message:

"Some partitions too small. Make at least: / 3.5GB"

I'm rewriting the disk. Why won't it do the correct partitioning?

Resize the NTFS in Windows and then shutdown the system. Reboot to the Ubuntu install media and install the OS.

I can't get into windows any longer. Can I do this using Ubuntu system? I'm just learning Ubuntu/Linux by trying it on this old PC.

There are no files that need saving. I'd like to wipe/reformat the HDD during installation.

Since I cannot get into windows, is there a way to do this through Ubuntu installation, or through partitioning through the Ubuntu USB boot?

Ubuntu trial version on USB runs, but the installer keeps crashing.

Maybe it works this way:

Use the installer in the 'Try Ubuntu without installing' mode, use the disk management tools to remove all partitions from the hard disk, and then reboot the installer to 'Install Ubuntu'.

Can you help with this problem?
