Unable to install Chrome
I am unable to install Chrome with Ubuntu 16.04. It downloads, but it won't install: I just get an icon on the Launcher to say WAITING TO INSTALL. I wait ... and wait ... and nothing happens. I prefer Chrome to Chromium and haven't had this problem with previous releases. Please advise. Thank you

Where did you download the deb to ?

Hi, AP, The Chrome file "apparently" downloaded as usual to my download
site, but when I click on the download nothing happens. And when it
attempts to install from the Software site it doesn't go there. It just
stops. And when I check the Launcher, there is an icon there with the
words "waiting to install". So I wait .... and wait ... even overnight.
It's still "waiting" next morning. I'm having more problems with 16.04
than any previous release - another example: the spellcheck doesn't work
on LibreOffice, so I may leave this release for now and wait until it's
had more updates. No fun so far. Thanks for the ack.

You didn't answer my question.... What folder are the deb(s) in?

My apologies, A.P.: I should have been clearer: when I click on the
"downloaded" icon - nothing happens. So I can't access the folder,
if it is indeed there. I suspect Chrome simply hasn't downloaded
properly, otherwise the files would be accessible? This may explain
why the Launcher icon is "waiting to install" - nothing to install?
But I'm back to using 14.04 - and WHAT a relief! I'll keep 16.04
on dual boot in case a future fix resolves this problem AND my
streaming sites not playing (this being a separate post). Once
again, many thanks for your help. Can't believe I had seven blissful
years with Ubuntu without any problems and trust Ubuntu will not
follow in Microsoft's footsteps i.e. the more functions added, the
more bugs and glitches ...:-(

Hi Mark, thanks for your response.
I haven't previously encountered a command that included an
Internet site address. Is this intended? If so, I got a 404.

That's what happens when your Email client chops up the command into invalid pieces.
Visit this thread using a web browser to see the difference.
So go here to see the correct commmand, which is CLEARLY longer:
