my keyboard has switched away from UK mode

Asked by David Sorrill

My kensington keybaord has switched layout modes in Ubuntu 14.04, so that "shift+2" gives me " rather than double quotes and "Shift+3" gives "<" rather than the wanted pound sign (which I cannot find anymore). I have a dual boot system and when in Windows 7 my keyboard is the normal UK layout with the ",@ & pound signs in the normal position. How do I re-load the correct keyboard layout in Ubuntu. This has only happened within the last week and I have no idea what triggered it except that I think it was after an otherwise normal ubuntu update.
Thanks
David.

Did you check the keyboard settings in settings? What Windows does or doesn't do is of zero consequence.

Yes. It keyboard settings highlighted English (UK) - which is what I expected it to be - but no change to the keys. Still more like US keyboard. I mentioned the Windows to show that it wasbn't anything to to do with the BIOS

After last entry went back to settings, used super+space to select the English (US), then used same method to select back to UK. This appears to have worked - at least for the time being. and I now have £££££, etc.
Thanks again Andrew - you prompted me to dig deeper.
