Hibernation fix does not work anymore on Asus n53

Asked by maarten

I had my Asus N53 i7 laptop for quite a few years now. I always used to get everything functional using the product specific page at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Asus_N53.

But starting 16.04 LTS suspend/hibernate does not work quite as well anymore. After installing bumblebee (which now installs from apt-get without problems) it does go into sleep mode properly. But the problem is that sleep mode still takes quite a lot of power and the laptop will opt to go into hibernate mode usually within a day.

After leaving my laptop in sleep mode for a longer time, I usually find it powered but totally unresponsive and showing just a black screen.

Fixing this would involve:
* Fix hibernation for 16.04 LTS on the Asus 16.04 LTS
* Adding the solution to the https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Asus_N53 page.

Maybe I can help

Maarten
