14.04 XP Dual Boot; Boots into Ubuntu fine, but doesn't give option to use XP although I can see XP on the startup screen

Asked by Newbie Mike

First time with Linux. I set up 14.04 on a machine running XP to dual boot.

The Ubuntu works fine and I'm quickly getting used to it, but on the first Ubuntu screen where I should have the option to scroll to XP and boot from it there is a problem. There is a line indicating the presence of the XP but it is set off to the right slightly with a few other things below the Ubuntu and I can't scroll to it.

Is there a way to change this or otherwise choose or switch to the XP boot?

Thanks,

Newbie Mike

If you hold SHIFT at boot, does it help. Before GRUB shows....

Hi,

Not only does holding SHIFT at boot helps, it worked perfectly in allowing use of the keyboard to select boot options in GRUB.

Much thanks!

Update......

The SHIFT key only worked once ????? Go figure.

I had to ENABLE USB Keyboard in the BIOS to fix this problem.
