Two finger scrolling stopped working
Two finger scrolling worked for one day after upgrading to 16.04 LTS but then ceased to be available.
Any suggestions about how to bring this feature back?

Further info: after a reboot, two finger scrolling was re-enabled for a few
minutes, then ceased.

After the reboot and the scrolling stops, run:
dmesg | tail
What is the output please?

Have you contacted System76? They may have advise.

It has returned to functioning normally (of course). As soon as the issue
recurs I will post the dmesg output.

I opened a support ticket with System76. They suggested re-installing the
touchpad driver but I have not done that yet.

OK, two finger scrolling failed again upon resume from suspend. Here is

I tried purging/
at System76. The problem occurred again after doing that, so that is not
the fix.
As it happens there was an update of the System76 driver today. (Their
driver maps some of the special keys and is not required.) I think its
release today was a coincidence in timing and not intended to address the
two finger scrolling issue. Either way, though, the loss of two finger
scrolling recurred after the System76 driver update, so that was not the
fix either.

Some further info: I disabled my synclient settings in the startup
applications (I'd placed them there long ago in order to enlarge the
trackpad area and shrink the virtual button area). I have not had the
scrolling fail since I disabled these settings yesterday.
I don't know how synclient interacts with the trackpad driver but my guess
is that there is some incompatibility between the two and that this is a
new problem in 16.04. I had no problems like this in 14.04 despite using
the same settings.
I also noticed that my syndaemon settings (to put the trackpad to sleep for
two seconds after the keyboard was touched—prevented palm touches from
moving the pointer) were not effective under 16.04 so I disabled those
also. The syndaemon settings did not, however, seem to have an effect on
the two finger scrolling problem but since they didn't appear to be
functional I figured I might as well disable them, too.
