Cant Access Gmail Email Sent to Myself

Asked by taurus

I set up Opera to send and recieve gmail POP and SMTP. i have no problem sending and receving emails. however, when i send an email to myself from opera, the email appears on gmail's email website, but i dont receive it in my opera email client when i check for email.

strangely enough, when i go to setttings in gmail's web interface and go to the 'Forwarding and POP' tab to select 'Enable POP for all mail', i am able to receive email sent to myself in opera, but only one time... i got to go back to gmail's settings and click 'Enable POP for all mail' EVERYTIME in order to receive email from myself in opera. and i dont want to go back and forth like this everytime.

whats the solution? thanks...

I guess that is not a bug due to Opera. The same thing happens to my Thunderbird (version 2.0.0.12 (20080227)) as well
Maybe this is a bug/feature of gmail?

Would others like to try sending an email to your own gmail account, and see if your own mail reader displays the same problem?
That will help the community to find out the root of the problem. Thanks

After some poking around in google help group. I guess that is a design feature of gmail.

Thus this problem is not due to Opera, Thunderbird, Ubuntu.. etc.

There seems to a suggested workaround.

>go to your preference and in the user name you have under your account
>settings just include the word "recent" before.
>so it look like this
>recent:[email address]

Thanks you guys.... Rui, I'll try the tip you had suggested but its a pain in the arse when you have to type 'recent' everytime you send an email to yourself. i think its a good idea at this point to submit to gmail a complaint so they can work on this problem. i will send them an email tonight...

if any of you have encountered the same issue and would like to follow suit, please email gmail support about it.... remember: in unity there is strength. Thanks guys!
