kodi-pvr-mythtv PPA for Xenial is an old version

Asked by Lasakro

This is my first time trying out a Beta version so don't know if this is a bug or expected or where it should be reported. 16.04 PPA for the kodi-pvr-mythtv is version 2.8.0 which doesn't work with kodi 16.0. If you define the repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa instead as Wily you can then load 3.4.7 which works fine.

BTW, great job so far on 16.04. I'm using Ubuntu Studio with KX Studio on top and everything has been flawless. Installed the beta 3 nights ago. Did take a while to figure out that the CSM mode has to be set to Legacy though. No dual setup.

That's not a bug. PPA stands for Personal Package Archive. The packages held on a PPA are the maintainers and they can have any package version for any release they desire, even EOL ones. The fact that they are publicly accessible on the Web is just an extra but the packages are for the PPA maintainer.

If you contact them, they may update the PPA but this is entirely their porogative. If they say no or simply ignore you then this is fine because the packages are for the maintainers own personal use. They don't have to compile for anyone but themselves and their own needs.

You can have your own PPA yourself and hold any packages you like as well, even Kodi.

If 3.4.7 works fine, why would the version need to change? The version available does what you need. Sounds like you are trying to fix something that isn't broken.

If you have Xenial the PPA provides 2.8 which won't work. You need to specify Wily after adding the PPA, additional step, to get the version that works. I've also only been a Linux user for 3 months so thanks for the general info about PPA's. I'll point this in their direction.
