Trouble with Internal Wireless Internet

Asked by jamesandcarody

I'm a newbie here with Ubuntu, or anything other than windows!

I have a HP NC6000 laptop with an internal wireless card. I have been unable to get any wireless internet signal or anything. Tried to look at others troubleshooting but to no avail, and things seem too get complicated quick!

From the other posts, here is some info that might help:

Could you post the output of "lspci" (without "-n")?

If you have a Broadcom 43xx wireless card, you may want to try following the instructions in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx/Gutsy

Maybe, if you are using Vodafone Mobile Connect Card or something like that:
Download the driver for your card to a USB-memory from friends internet PC.
Like : Vodafone Mobile Connect Card driver for Linux 1.99.17 .deb (to Ubuntu 7.04 or 7.10) and maybe 8.04 is ready for Your Connect Card. This works only with mobile internet card.
I am using it now and it works fine, as you see.

Okay, I have the ability to download a driver and transport it to a USB... but....

How do I find the driver?

How do I install it?

You could try installing bcm5700-source. Then, run module-assistant to compile and install the drivers. Don't worry, the process is almost completely automatic.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask jamesandcarody for more information if necessary.
