I can't get ubuntu running with my ATI HD3870

Asked by hd3870

I tried to install the live cd in my computer, but the screen would just flicker. So I downloaded the alternate cd, I got it to install, but now it won't boot in to the os The screen just flickers. I guess this is because my video card is not supported. I am running AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ 2.8GHz, with 4 gig ram, My Video card is Sapphire ATI Radeon HD3870 512MB.

If somebody knows how to fix this problem, or where I can get the drivers for my video card. email me at <email address hidden> or just post it here.

Thanks In advance.

You can try to compile/install the current version of the ati driver (fglrx) or the radeonhd driver ( http://www.radeonhd.org/ ).

But the easiest way is to try Ubuntu 8.04 live CD. You can get the current build on http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily-live/

Can you help with this problem?
