dosemu currently does not depend on dosemu-freedos

Asked by audiophyl

Hello,

I attempted to install dosemu using the Add/Remove menu option, but since it will not force the install of the package dosemu-freedos it will not function.

Searching for dosemu-freedos within the Add/Remove window yields no results. Fortunately, I was able to select dosemu-freedos using Synaptic instead.

I am proposing that selection of dosemu in the Add/Remove program will also select dosemu-freedos. It might also be worthwhile to select a package containing a fixed-width console font that might look 'pretty' within dosemu.

Just an idea!

I note that dosemu-freedos is a "recommends" for DOSEMU and not a "depends" which would lead to the behaviour that you have seen.

http://packages.ubuntu.com/feisty/otherosfs/dosemu
http://packages.ubuntu.com/edgy/otherosfs/dosemu
http://packages.ubuntu.com/dapper/otherosfs/dosemu

This should possibly be reported as a bug in the DOSEMU package. You can do that here:-

https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/dosemu/+bugs

However it is arguable that you might want to use DOSEMU without the freedos package. It's possible you might want to use another DOS than freedos.

Can you help with this problem?
