Are there any bugs reported? Xenial is not ready and not stable.

yeah i did it, but the feature freeze date was Feb 19, 2016 so i think, it will not be implemented in the final relese.

So, it's an epic Fail, every major OS supports L2TP over IPSEC (Windows, Mac OS X, IOS, Android, Ubuntu 14.04, ...) but not Ubuntu 16.04...

For me when we are speaking about vpn, "supported" is not being able to install 3 programs, and configure in the console in X differents files... for me "suppoted" in a Desktop environment means in network-manager, add vpn , select l2tp, and configure a few fields there...

In windows it is a few clicks...

Here is some plugin for nwm that worked for me in trusty, but it has not beeing update for xenial :-(
https://launchpad.net/~seriy-pr/+archive/ubuntu/network-manager-l2tp

I think it has to be integrated and work out of the box, connectivity is important for a distribution.

I could list a tonne of things that happen in Linux and take ages to setup in Windows. Doesn't mean a great deal.....

There is now a new network-manager-l2tp PPA.

network-manager-l2tp 1.2.4 packages for 17.04 (zesty), 16.10 (yakkety) and 16.04 (xenial) can be found here:
https://launchpad.net/~nm-l2tp/+archive/ubuntu/network-manager-l2tp

Waiting for Debian to synchronize apparmor fix for strongswan, once that happens will submit package to Debian. The PPA is just an interim solution till then.

Meant waiting for Debian to synchronize Ubuntu strongswan which includes an apparmor fix amongst many others, once that happens will submit network-manager-l2tp to Debian

Actually, looks like Debian's strongswan AppArmor profiles were synchronized with Ubuntu's strongswan on 2016-12-21, so I'll submit network-manager-l2tp to Debian.
