Login to profile and no keyboard or mouse on Ubuntu 15.10

Asked by Todd Chilson

Using Ubuntu 15.10 on a HP 2000 Notebook laptop. I get to the login prompt and my keyboard and mouse work just fine. When I login my keyboard and mouse stop working. How do I resolve this?

If you press CTRL + ALT + F1 do you drop the TTY?
Can you login there?
What happened on the system before the issue started?

This is not a login issue. Yes of course, I can. The question is once/after I login my keyboard/mouse stop working. My keyboard/mouse work just fine up until the login event.
Nothing happened. I do updates when they come out that is it. I just use this computer to check email and stuff, so there are no real changes outside the updates that come.

Just a suggestion to narrow the possibilities, it might be worth creating another user on the system and trying to login the same way. If the problem doesn't occur, you may just have a problem with a setting for the local user, or some other startup application exclusive only to that user. If you see the same problem, you may be having a lower-level problem such as drivers or configuration.

Well, I created another account and logged in successfully. The mouse and keyboard worked fine. I logged back out and into my original account, and my keyboard and mouse worked. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why, but I have no idea. Wish I knew the cause, but I guess case closed.
