how to fix alsamixer saying "this sound device doesnot have any controls".

I am using ubuntu 12.04 . There is no sound through speakers. Only sound from headphones.
I saw many solutions and they say to check controls in alsamixer.
 When I write alsamixer in terminal a pop up comes .
It reads as "This sound device doesn not have any controls". There is nothing i can do except for pressing esc for leaving that page. I have alsa installed in the laptop.
how to resolve it?

Your GNU/Linux kernel version (3.5.0-61-generic) is old now...

Please try running these Terminal commands.

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/alsa-daily

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install linux-image-3.13.0-74-generic

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-3.13.0-74-generic

sudo apt-get install oem-audio-hda-daily-dkms

Then reboot and retest sound output using headphones and speakers and using the newer kernel version 3.13.0-74-generic.

Test all audio jacks at the front and the back of your PC.

Make sure all channels are unmuted (no MM at bottom of each mixer channel) and increased to 100% volume in the alsamixer Terminal application.

If that does not solve the sound issue, please run the following commands in a Terminal:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install python-bs4

cd /tmp

rm -rf medigeek-kmp*

wget --no-check-certificate https://github.com/medigeek/kmp-downloader/tarball/master -O kmpd.tar.gz

tar xzf kmpd.tar.gz

cd medigeek-*

python kmpd.py -d

Then reboot into the newly installed 4.5.0-040500rc7.201603061830 GNU/Linux kernel.

Make sure all channels are unmuted and increased to 100% volume in the alsamixer Terminal application.

Then retest sound output using headphones and speakers using the 4.5.0 rc7 kernel.

Test all audio jacks at the front and the back of your PC.
