Ubuntu 16.04 Beta 1 hang while booting from USB thumb drive

Asked by NilsB

I want to install Ubuntu on my brand new Laptop, but even the start from a fresh installed USB thumb drive hangs. I tried this with Ubuntu 15.10 and 16.04 Beta 1. The result is the same = hang.

On the black screen you read:

[ 5.044763] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: priu: HUBO: 6013d4 0000573f (1f408200)
[ 5.044828] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: priu: HUBO: 10ecc0 ffffffff (1840822c)

That's all. I have to power off the Laptop. I downloaded the Ubuntu 16.04 .iso today (2016-03-11).

Here are some technical details to the hardware:

MSI GE72-6QD16H11 Gaming Notebook with i7-6700HQ 128GB SSD GTX 960M 16 GB RAM

https://www.msi.com/Notebook/GE72-6QD-Apache-Pro.html#hero-specification

Is there a chance to get this Hardware Supported?

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?

Yes, it's identical.

Try the boot option:

nouveau.blacklist=1

I inserted the USB stick, booted from it, saw the GRUB version 2.02 screen, pressed "e" to edit and added your boot option "nouveau.blacklist=1" between splash and ---. Subsequently pressed F10 to boot and the system hangs again. Now I can see the LED on the thumb drive flickers, there is a graphical screen with a circle and it moves for about 5 seconds, then it stops and the system hangs again.

I also checked the USB stick on my working computer. It boots without any problems. The GUI comes up, and I also checked the integrity of all files (boot option) => everything is ok. It must be a problem with the new hardware.

Did you try the boot option we have suggested?

Yes, it runs a little bit further, but it also hangs. I.e. now in the splash screen. I can't press Ctrl + Alt + F7 or similar. The system is completely dead.
