dual ubuntu desktops

Hello.

I have been having a lot of problems with my computer ever since 15.04.
I downloaded 16.04 but can't get it to work either. I followed a post to install a different desktop and installed lubuntu. I had the same problem as with the other desktop, I can't get past the log in screen.

I uninstalled it then purged it but the desktop is still there.

I do not know how to fix this problem.

When I boot the computer I get a blue screen which says,
Lubuntu 16.04 and it shows a login box.

What is strange is that I deleted lubuntu and purged it so I. Should not be seeing this on my screen.

When I run the sudo update command, it shows all updates for oubuntu. So, something is wrong somewhere.

Also, I deleted all passwords from the bios but I still cannot log into the desktop.

Somehow, I lost the desktop and now I can only get to the terminal.
