reinstalled ubuntu 15.10 cannot log into desktop

Asked by davidzaq1

Hello

I was having problems with my OS so I reinstalled it. I get to the desktop and put in my password, the desktop accepts the password and the password box disappears. Then the screen flickers a few times then goes back to the log in screen.

Is there a way to fix this?

Press CTRL + ALT + F1 and login there.

You can now run updates (I assume you have a Web connection).

Hello,

F1 puts me in the terminal. I have no problems getting to the terminal.
The problem is I cannot log into the desktop. I put in the password, the screen flashes a few times and goes back to he login screen. I cannot get past it.

I tried re-installing 15.10 and have the same problem.

I also put in a 14.10 disk, also burned a 14.02 disk but when I try to boot from the drive, it will not open. I have the bios set to boot from the disk. It seems I
can't even get a fresh install.
