Win XP / Ubuntu 15.04 new installation - Grub Menu not shown

Asked by srikumar

On a newly formatted Hard Disk with all partitions removed into a single disk partition.
Windows XP was installed and is running OK.
Ubuntu 15.04 was installed from a CD thereafter side by side with Win XP.
All necessary steps were followed and then re-booted when prompted after the Ubuntu 15.04 installation was completed.
The computer on boot-up does not show the Grub Menu and boots into Win XP instead. Win XP is working OK,.
How to boot into Ubuntu 15.04

any suggestions ?
Than k you.

15.04 is EOL and no longer supported in any way. I suggest you wipe the install off and do a clean install of Xenial. Xenial is prerelease now, but next month it is due out and will give LTS support until April 2021.

Alternatively you can upgrade to Wily using the Web. Just run:

sudo do-release-upgrade

OmgUbuntu has a guide named "Sticking it to GRUB"

You can use it to put GRUB on the drive so that the dual boot is managed. If XP only boots then it's probably easier to boot to the install media for Wily and upgrade the OS using CD (or USB)

Have upgraded the OS by erasing Ubuntu 15.04 and installed Ubuntu 15.10 over it using a DVD.
The Computer still boots to Win XP
will now try your suggestion # 3.
