failed to fetch libreoffice-universe in precise (12.04)

Asked by Yleeyas

After a recent update to new linux kernal (3.2.0-99-pae), coincidently (?), I started getting the following error messages from 'software updater':

"
W:Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/libreoffice/libreoffice-universe/ubuntu/dists/precise/main/source/Sources
404 Not Found,
W:Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/libreoffice/libreoffice-universe/ubuntu/dists/precise/main/binary-i386/Packages
404 Not Found,
E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
"

I've searched for these ppa's (libreoffice-universe) in the launchpad archives and indeed they don't exist, so I deactivated (using Synaptic).
I believe they contained fixes to problems with the report-builder way back.

I still have the following ppa's active and am running libreoffice version 5.05.2 rc2 (on 12.04 updated)

http://ppa.launchpad.net/libreoffice/ppa/ubuntu precise main
http://ppa.launchpad.net/libreoffice/ppa/ubuntu precise main (Source Code)

Just wondering:
a) are these last two ppa's required and are they providing the most current stable version of LO for my system.

b) (just curious about) what happened to the 'not found' ppa's if anyone knows :) I assume the report-builder problem was fixed elsewhere and these were made redundant.

TIA

The PPA doesn't exist. Remove it and then read it. They have had a reshuffle on how the PPA is stored which you haven't updated along with.

I suggest removing all PPA's related to Libreoffice and only adding this one (for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS):

https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/libreoffice-5-0?field.series_filter=precise

Thanx for the replies folks.

As per Marks instructions I've removed 'dormant' repos and added the "libreoffice-5-0" referenced.

Looks good from here.

Guess I'll have to keep a closer eye on upgrades and latest greatest releases :)

Thanx again and will mark solved now
