Trying to download Realplayer to watch/listen to BBC news

Asked by Mary Matthews

I have tried to download realplayer (10.5 GOLD) from website. It gets as far as an icon lurking on my desktop, but where do I go from there.
I have also been to Synaptic to find the realplayer there and the message I get is Depends: xlibs but it is not installable. I've looked in the repositories and installed what 'xlibs' I can find, but am no further on.
My aim is to be able to watch/listen to the various programmes on the BBC website. Mary Matthews

Can you try the following:-

Applications --> Accessories --> Terminal.

In the box that appears try:-

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mozilla-helix-player

This should install the mozilla plugin and the helix player which should allow you to play real content in a browser.

I've done all that, Alan, and now when I try to watch/listen to BBC news
I get a new screen with the word HELIX on it (I presume that confirms
that I have installed Helix correctly) but the following error message
appears, and I quote: Bad transport
(rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/news/media/news_web/video40545000/bb/40545855_bb_16x9.rm?title:"BBC%20News"&author="http://news.bbc.co.uk/"&copyright="(C)%20British%20Broadcasting%20Corporation")
So once again HELP!!! Mary

You install Real Player like this: I suppose you steal have it on compluter what you need to do is this:

- Ensure that the .bin file you downloaded is executable. You can make the .bin file executable click on the bin icon with right button on your mouse then choose properties from menu, you should get a new window, in their choose permisions on the tab and make file readed, writible and runing their are 9 thinks you should mark. I m sorry that I can t teal you more easyer but my english is not my primary language.

- Run the .bin file by moving it into the terminal, you open the terminal by going to programs, accesories, terminal.

- You should get a bunch of text it will ask you where to install, I suggest you to install it into your primary map which you can see my going to places. "home map"

- When you launch the player for the first time, a set-up assistant will take you through configuring your player.

I can find Terminal and it opens a window with mary@mary-desktop:~ $
with the cursor flashing there. What command do I type there?
