synaptic repository index error

When I try to add repository This box comes up on the screen.
Could not download all repository indexes
http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/dapper-updates/main/source/sources.gz:sub process gzip returned error code 1

You can try to set "Main server" as default download location (available in Settings -> Packages) and refresh the packet cache.

It's in the menu at the top of the Synaptic window.
I'm sorry but I can't provide exact terms because my system language is not English.

System --> Administration --> Synaptic Package Manager. In Synaptic go to Settings --> Repositories

Alternatively do this:-

ALT+F2
In the box type this:-

gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

And where you see the lines which have "http://us.archive" change them to be "http://archive" - don't change anything else, just do a search and replace replacing:-

//us.

With

//

And then save and close it.
