Dual Booting, windows and ubuntu

Asked by davidzaq1

Hello,

I have a Dell Laptop, Dell Vostro 1500. Currently I have Ubuntu 15.04 OS installed.
I would like to install windows OS on the laptop so I can run windows programs if I need to.
I tried Wine but it does not seem to want to run any windows programs.

I would like to ask if I can install windows alongside Ubuntu. If so, how is this done?

I would be grateful for any help or advise with lthis.

Thank you,
David

Ubuntu 15.04 is EOL and no longer supported in any way. You can install the release but there are zero updates or packages for it.

I suggest you use Trusty (Ubuntu 14.04) which is LTS and supported til April 2019. It will also allow you to upgrade directly to Xenial in April this year.

Alternatively you could just install the prerelease of Xenial now and you won't have to upgrade. You will system update to the release candidate in April on release day.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

In another post you had, you suggested updating to "Willy" I think it was.
Now there is "Xenial"? I am confused.

I was under the impression that "Willy" if this is the right name was going to be an LTS and would be supported for a while.

Maybe I misunderstood all of this and if you would kindly get me up to date on all this I would be grateful.

As for the above advise, thank you.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

You can upgrade from Vivid to Wily as it is the next release.
