Change 32bit Ubuntu -15.10 to 64bit 15.10?

Asked by Ralph

Installed Ubuntu 15.04 from a 32/64 bit CD/DVD thought the install would detect the AMD Turion64 processor; Don't recall being asked 32 or 64. Various updates yielded Ubuntu 15.10 32bit OS. Is there upgrade package short of total reinstall which yields a
64bit 15.10 OS? Is this 64bit AMD processor causing this problem?

You will need to reinstall but use the 64bit install media. You cannot just switch just like you cannot just switch in Windows.

I suggest you use the Xenial install media. It is released in April and will give you support until April 2021. You will need to wipe off the current install.

You can restore your user data from your backups.
