data exchange between old laptop(U7.10) and new one (U7.10)

Asked by Erehwon

For some times now I use a laptop with XP and Ubuntu in parallel. Ubuntu performed convincingly and I bought a new Dell with only Ubuntu on it. How to get the data from the old laptop to the new one? I'm in possession of a crosslink cable and no knowledge of networking whatsoever. I want to get it done and forget.
This should be a common question for anybody with a new PC and an old one both running Linux.

You can use SimpleBackupSuite to backup your home directory, then record it on dvd, copy it on the second laptop, and then use restore this backup on it. See
