Do you want to
log off (close all programs that you started and de-authenticate yourself, that you have to provide your password that you can start working again, but the computer keeps running)
or
shutdown (close down the computer, powering it off; it has to be started again if you want to use it)
?

There is the terminal command

sudo shutdown now

to initiate a shutdown.
