unable to get updates or access the software center

Asked by Donald Tripp

I am using Pinguy 14.04.3. I am unable to get updates or access the Ubuntu Software Center. When attempting to get updates, I get an error message stating that my system is not pointing to the Linux Mint repositories Add deb 'http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream support import' to your APT sources.

I'm afraid that I don't know what my APT sources are, let alone how to add anything to them.

I did try to get updates and install them in the Terminal using:

sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

With the following results:

[/home/] 6s $ sudo apt-get clean
[/home/] $ sudo apt-get autoremove
Reading package lists... Error!

E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.getdeb.net_ubuntu_dists_trusty-getdeb_games_i18n_Translation-en
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
[/home/] 3s 100 $ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

I think that this problem started after Wine spontaneously opened and began performing some kind function that I did not initiate or authorize.

If this can be resolved without re-installing Pinguy on the hard drive partition, I would prefer to do so.

Ping is not supported by the Ubuntu community. It's support is entirely separate from Ubuntu's.

I suggest you post here:
http://forum.pinguyos.com/

None of the "Ubuntu based" distributions are supported by the Ubuntu community.

Thanks

The procedure to solve such problem on Ubuntu is the following, but I have no knowledge whether this might also work in Pinguy:
FAQ #1591: “'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with MergeList”.

Can you help with this problem?
