Read this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs

And then, report a bug at Launchpad.

I really want to like Linux & Ubuntu, but there are too many probs...

The latest prob is that my microphone won't work under Skype. I should contact Skype, sure, but I never know whether my efforts will result in a fix, so I tend not to bother, and I go back to MSWindows or MacOSX.

Here's what I just wrote to a friend, minutes ago, about Linux &/or Ubuntu:

Hi, I'm back after 45mins or so. It's a good thing you weren't online because my microphone isn't working; well it's not working on a LinuxUbuntu platform. Ubuntu is turning out to be not as good as the enthususiats say it is. It crashes too often, which makes it hard to believe it's based on "Debian" which I believe can go a whole year without tripping. *NB All I say here is true of a MacBook; maybe Ubuntu is great on PC hardware. Ubuntu also slows down a lot on my system, so much so that I have to reboot. And then, all the same apps regenerate on re-boot, so I have to close them all down ... this just isn't what I perceived a Linux distro to be, especially not on a quite reasonably powered machine (2.16Ghz dual core, 1GB memory). I was told Linux is famous for running well on OLD hardware. I think LinuxUbuntu has become the new MSWindows. (Wait till I post these thoughts on a Linux forum; the Linux devotees are going to blow their tops!!!)

pavolzetor: Microphone does NOT work on my MacBook using "karmic" (latest & updated version) using a 2.16GHz chip with 1GB of RAM. Obviously my purpose in submitting this message is partly to provide feedback, but mostly to make my computer to work.

After trying very hard for many months to make Ubuntu my main system, I am ready to give up; here are SOME of the reasons:
1. Ubuntu(Karmic) is unstable---it crashes often, which is hard to believe because it's based on Debian which was legendary for its stability.
2. Ubuntu(Karmic) freezes up too often. I had written half of this message when I went to work on a different workspace for a while. When I tried to return to writing this message, this computer had frozen up. I tried for many minutes to get it to unfreeze, and spent even more minutes for it to unfreeze without me doing anything. That did't work and I had to reboot, so I lost all I had written in a message to you, and had to start from "zero".
3. Ubuntu(Karmic) is very slow on my computer, which is a MacBook with a dual core 2.16GHz CPU with 1GB of RAM. My perception (and that of many others) is that Linux can work well on old computers. My computer is not the latest, but it's not old.)
4. Ubuntu(Karmic) won't work with my HP2500 series printer/MFC. It prints without problem, but I cannot get it to SCAN and I see not way of faxing.

I'm reading and working through a book called "Ubuntu for Non-geeks" (3rd ed), but I can't see any ready answers to the above-mentioned problems.

I hope you can help; thanks in advance.

Oh, and another thing: My home wireless (Airport) does NOT work with UbuntuLinuxKarmic on my MacBook. This is a problem I have had ever since I installed it, and have NOT found a solution. I tried something I found on an Ubuntu help site that involved some command line stuff (which I copied and pasted to make sure it was right) but even that didn't get it to pick up my home wireless.
___I REALLY want to like and use Ubuntu, but I REALLY can't.
