no sound under 8.04

since I upgarded my system from 7.10 to ubuntu 8.04 my sound is not working

diagnostics:

My Mainboard is an ASUS A8N-SLI deluxe:

from ASUS homepage:
     Realtek ALC850, 8-channel CODEC
     Audio Sensing and Enumeration Technology
     Coaxial/Optical S/PDIF out ports on back I/O

under ubuntu 7.10 the sound worked out of the box.
After the upgrade sound is unavailable.

unfortunately I am new to linux/ubuntu - so this is a bigger problem
for me than i expected.

So viel ich weiss gib es dieses Problem unter 8.10 öfters ,
auch ich hab dasselbe Problem :-( (leider)

siehe Bug #200338: no sound hardy kernel 2.6.24-12 ( das müsste so was sein )

Ich hoffe damit dir vielleicht etwas geholfen zuhaben
zumindest has(s)t nicht nur du dieses Problem.

danke für Hinweis auf den Bug Report.

Ich hatte es bereits mit den AlSA Seiten versucht ....

hatte http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=205449 durchgearbeitet

bis zum neucompilieren des ganzen ... alles ohne zu wissen was ich gerade wirklich tue ;)

... aber es scheint nicht an meiner Unfähigkeit zu liegen ;) .... hätte mich auch gewundert *g*

werde also mal die nächsten Updates abwarten. Bis April is ja auch nimmer so lang. Vielleicht gehts ja in der Final.

Solved the problem after reading in other (german) ubuntu forums:

Used synaptic to install : 'linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-12-386'

Rebootet the system - now 8.04 offers sound as it was under 7.10.

I have Ubuntu 8.04, recently installed, with the latest updates, but no sound.

 I was a little put off by all the German (my German vocabulary is limited to little more than "Das Boot" and Volkswagen) but "linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-12-386" is understandable. However, Synaptic Package Manager cannot locate it. Is there some other phrase I should use to find the module I need?
