Upgrading on an old computer

Asked by Moshe Caspi

It looks like I already made a slight mistake and installed Lubuntu 15.04 on a old computer (AMD K7 cpu) which runs a bit slow. I am considering upgrading to the next LTS version. How hard do you think will this upgrade affect my computer?

You will need to upgrade to 15.10 then to 16.04 LTS

This will take a lot of data and a lot of time.

I suggest you grab the ISO for the Alpha release and do a clean install, wiping the standing OS off the system.

I'd also suggest you use either Xubuntu or Lubuntu to free up more resources for applications (as they us a lighter DE than Gnome).

Thanks for the info. I am aware of the upgrade procedure I wanted to know
more about the difference in spped that my system will work comapred to
15.04 as my computer is a bit old. How "bad" will it be compared to now.

I would expect to see more of a difference in speed between the different variants of X/L/Ubuntu and not between the different releases 15.04/15.10/16.04 of the same variant.

Can you help with this problem?
